Mechanism of Genetic Hair Loss in Women

As with loss of hair in men, women genetic hair fall largely stems from a complex stew of genes, hormones and age. However, in female there are even more players. In addition to 5-a reductase, testosterone, and dihydrotestosterone (DHT); which are also found in men’s hair loss; also current in women are the enzyme aromatase and the women hormones estrone and estradiol. So let’s break down the process that leads to common hair shedding in women.

In both men and women, 5-a reductase reacts with testosterone to produce DHT, the hormone responsible for the shrinking and gradual disappearance of concerned hair follicles. This explains why both men and women lose their hair. But one of this reasons why women rarely have the conspicuous bald areas that men do is because women naturally have only half the amount of 5-a reductase compared to men.

Adding to this complexity, in women, the enzyme aromatase is responsible for the formation of the women hormones, estrone and estradiol, counteract the action of DHT. Female have higher levels of aromatase than men, especially at the frontal hairline. It is this existence of aromatase which may help explain why hair loss in women looks so different than in men, particularly with respect to the preservation of the frontal hairline. It may also explain why women have a poor response to the drug finasteride (Propecia), a medication widely used to treat hair loss in men that works by blocking the formation of DHT.

The following is a schematic graph of how the female hormones estrone and estradiol are produced and their relationship to DHT:

What vitamins are good for hair loss?

http://arganrainproducts.com/
A good daily multivitamin containing zinc, vitamin B, folate, iron, and calcium is a reasonable choice, although there is no good indication that vitamins have any important benefit in alopecia. Newer studies suggest that vitamin D may be somewhat accessible and worth considering. Specific vitamin and mineral deficiencies like iron or vitamin B12 may be determined by blood tests and treated.

Multiple vitamins, including biotin, have been advocated for hair growth, but solid scientific studies for many of these claims are lacking. While taking biotin and other supplements marketed for hair, skin, and nails probably won't worsen anything, it may also not necessarily help the situation. Therefore, advertised hair-regrowth supplements should be approached with mild caution.

Can itchy scalp cause hair loss?

Itchy scalp may cause mild, reversible hair loss. Causes may include seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff). Treatments may consist of medicated shampoos like ketoconazole (Nizoral), OTC dandruff shampoos and topical steroid creams and lotions to help decrease itching.

How do people prevent hair loss?

Hair-loss prevention involves several factors depending on the underlying cause. Good hair hygiene with regular shampooing is a basic step, but is probably of little benefit. Good nutrition, especially acceptable levels of iron and vitamin B, is helpful. Treatment of underlying medical conditions like thyroid disease, anemia, and hormonal imbalances may useful in prevention.

Benefits of Argan Oil

The benefits of Argan oil are numerous and immense to our health. Argan oil is a myriad of natural wonders with marvelous effects on skin and hair.

A wealth of highly nourishing and soothing components:

Vitamin E: or Alpha Tocopherol is powerful in fighting free radicals and making our skin more resistant to their damaging effects.
Free radicals can cause significant damage to important cellular components such as DNA and cell membranes prompting our cells to perform inadequately or even die.
Vitamin F: is made of two essential fatty acids: Linolenic acid (Omega 3) and Linoleic acid (Omega 6).
Used to repair and create tissue in the body, Vitamin F helps with skin and hair growth. Deficiency in Vitamin F causes skin disorders such as: acne, rashes, eczema, psoriasis, and dry skin.
Essential fatty acids, along with anti-oxidants help rebuild hydrolipidic filmskin’s and hair’s natural protective barrier against dryness and environmental factors. Skin regains its elasticity, remains young and healthy, and hair recovers its luster and vitality.
Phenols: Found only in some essential oils these powerful anti-oxidants with antiseptic and antibacterial properties are used as disinfectants. Phenols are great stimulants for our nerves and for our immune system.
Squalene: is an organic compound mainly found in vegetable oils. An essential Triterpene important for the synthesis of vitamin D, steroid hormones, and cholesterol, Squalene is suggested to prevent cancer.
Squalene is used in modern vaccines to stimulate our immune system and improve our response to vaccines.
Sterols (Spinasterol and Schottenol): Sterols are natural alcohols present in oils. They improve cutaneous circulation, slow skin aging and protect against UV.

    Women's Hair Loss

Long, short, bouncy, sleek - for most women, hair is far more than a bundle of fiber. It's an explanation of style and personality. Research also suggests hair and self-image are closely intertwined. If an casual "bad hair day" can make a woman feel bad, hair loss can be a distressing sight to face every morning in the mirror.

The idea that thinning hair is a guy problem is simply wrong. 40% of people who experience limited or long term hair loss are women. Some have hair that is thinning all over, while others see the center part gradually widen. Still others develop distinct baldness at the crown of the head. Unlike men, women hardly develop a receding front hairline.

            How Hair Grows

The average scalp has 100,000 hairs. Each follicle produces a single hair that grows at a rate of half an inch per month. After growing for two to six years, hair rests awhile before falling out. It's soon replaced with a new hair, and the cycle begins again. At any given time, 85% of hair is growing, and it is resting.

How Much Hair Loss Is Normal?

Most people lose about 50-100 strands every day, because resting hairs regularly fall out. You'll typically find a few strands in your hair brush or on your clothes. Unusual hair loss can happen in several ways. You may notice dramatic clumps falling out when you shampoo or style. Or your hair may thin slowly over time.
If you're disturbed about changes in your hair, you can check with your doctor.

Finding the Cause of Hair Loss

Hair fall in women can be triggered by about 30 different medical conditions, as well as several lifestyle factors. Sometimes no specific cause can be found. As a starting point, hair loss experts recommend testing for thyroid problems and hormone imbalances. In many cases, hair will regrow once the cause is addressed.
